Premium High Precision Smooth Operation Telescoping Bore Gauges
Telescoping gages are used for determining the true size of holes, slots, and recesses up to 6" (150 mm). The ends of both contacts are hardened and ground to a radius to allow proper clearance on the smallest hole the gage will enter. The final hole size is obtained by measuring over the gage contacts with a micrometer or calipers.

Can be used to determine bore diameters
Description
The Brown & Sharpe 599-591-20 six-piece telescoping gage set comes as a complete set of six gages ranging 5/16 and 7.9 mm to 6 and 152.4 mm. The set has a satin-chrome finish for low glare and durability, and features a knurled lock, helping to provide a more secure grip for ease of use. Handles hold the gage for insertion into bore to determine diameters.
Telescoping gages are simple reference tools used for determining bore diameters. They are typically used in conjunction with a caliper or outside micrometer, which are used to take the measurement of the locked telescoping gage once it has been implemented.
Brown & Sharpe was founded in 1833, had a major part in setting industrial standards in the United States, and has given its name to several standards, including a tool spindle taper, a worm threadform, and others. Brown & Sharpe was acquired by Hexagon Metrology in 2001, and has since focused on precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools. The Brown & Sharpe line of coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), optical measuring systems, benchtop measuring machines, and precision hand tools offer consistent, high-quality design, construction, and performance. Brown & Sharpe has manufacturing facilities in North America, Switzerland, and China.

Feature
Gradient spacing of 0.0005"Insulated grip for extra stability
Two-point contact for detection of geometry problems such as ovality and taperCarbide-tipped contact points for extended wear and improved abrasion resistance
Description
The Fowler Dial Bore Gauge Set has gradient spacing of 0.0005" and the insulated grip offers extra stability while taking measurements. The gauge utilizes a two-point contact system to detect geometry problems such as ovality and taper, and carbide-tipped contact points offer extended wear and improved abrasion resistance.
Bore gauges measure holes, or bores, in a workpiece. They can measure the interior diameter of a hole at any depth, while internal micrometers can only measure to the depth of their teeth. Bore gauges are typically calibrated with a setting ring and come in two types: simple and direct-measuring. Simple bore gauges are used with a caliper to transfer the hole measurement, while the more complex gauges take the measurement directly, and display it through a vernier, dial, or digital display. Bore gauges have a two- or three-point contact, indicating how many points on the gauge head touch the inside of the bore. Two-point contacts are better at measuring ovality, while three-point contacts are used to measure lobing or triangular form error. Pistol-grip bore gauges are used for fast, single-handed operation with repeatable results from one operator to another. Bore gauges can also be used in special applications, such as measuring threads, spline pitch diameters, and deep bores.
The Fred V. Fowler Company manufactures inspection and measurement instruments such as electronic indicators, calipers, bore gages, and digital scales. The company, founded in 1946, is headquartered in Newton, MA.
