1. Priceless: Who I Am When I Feel . . .

Description

What if your daughters propensity for feeling all the feels is actually a good thing?

Teens and tweens have a reputation for letting their emotions get the best of them, so much so that we often wonder if our families (and the world) wouldnt be better off if these young women we love could feel just a little less. But as Linda Barrick discovered, these emotions play an important role in the spiritual lives of young women, and, when they learn to direct them rightly, their feelings can be a powerful force for good in their lives, homes, and schools.

Thats why Linda and her daughter Jen wrote this devotional for teen girls. After Lindas daughter, Jen, was in a traumatic car accident, Jen was in many ways frozen at age fifteen and completely uninhibited. That means Jen still says what shes thinking and feeling almost all the time. Because of this Jens mom, Linda, got a unique glimpse into the inner world of young women, and she realized that the emotions young teen girls feel are a beautiful gift. It gives them the ability, like Jen, to have an unhindered, best-friend relationship with their Heavenly Father.

In this 30-day devotional for young teen girls, Jen Barrick, with the help of her mom, Linda Barrick, compiled her own real-life prayers with passages from Psalms in order to speak directly to the heart of young women. It will teach these teens and tweens how to cultivate a deep, emotional relationship with the God who loves them. Each day will:

  • address a different feeling and examine it in light of Gods truth from a short passage of Psalms
  • affirm young womens feelings as a gift of God
  • demonstrate how their emotions are meant to lead them closer to God
  • show them how to make their faith stronger when they use Gods Word to navigate their emotions

Description

On her hit television show 'Tiny and Toya', Antonia 'Toya' Carter seems to be living the good life: she has a beautiful home, good friends, and is pursuing her dreams in fashion design. But hers has been a life of peaks and valleys. Abandoned by her parents as a child, she was passed from family member to family member as her mother sank deeper into her drug addiction. Feeling unloved and unwelcomed, Toya fell into the arms of a 15-year-old rising musical starDwayne Michael Carter, known these days as the rapper 'Lil Wayne'-- and ended up pregnant at the tender age of 14.

In Priceless Inspiration, Toya takes the reader through the pain of being a teenage mother struggling to raise a child while still a child herselfwithout the benefit of the guidance of her own mother. Using the words she recorded in the journals she kept as a teenand the wisdom she has gained in the years sinceToya bares her own struggles, using them to offer young women real and heartfelt understanding and advice about sex, relationships, motherhood and growing up.

4. Your Peace Is Priceless

Description

Understanding the value of anything will determine the way in which you respond to it as well as the respect that you have for it. We must be cognizant of this fact: Value isnt always a numerical assessment! Too many times, we assume that the only way to clearly show value is in the form of a price tag. As it relates to the Believer (mind, body, and soul), Its not what something looks like on the outside that gives it value, but the greater measure of its value is whats on the inside! While the reality of that quote remains, the challenge in this book is unique because of its focusour Peace. Thats why I refer to this literary work as a quick-read, peace restoring tool. There are two, interrelated, non-tangible items which are greater in value than any tangible ones: our peace and our joy. No price can be placed on these two. Nothing is adequate enough to exchange for them. Consequently, it is not an exaggeration or hyperbole when I say, Your Peace is Priceless! I believe we should do all that is within our power to protect our peace (and its related joy) and work hard at not allowing ourselves to surrender it to anyone or anything. However, we have all been guilty of allowing this give-away to occur at different times in our lives. The Holy Spirit inspired me to write this new book for that very purpose. Peace is such an invaluable resource. As we mature, we realize more and more that this precious commodity is worth fighting for. Why? Well, Your Peace is Priceless!

5. Buton's History of Buddhism in India and Its Spread to Tibet: A Treasury of Priceless Scripture (Tsadra)

Feature

Used Book in Good Condition

Description

This 14th century lively history introduces basic Buddhism as practiced throughout India and Tibet and describes the process of entering the Buddhist path through study and reflection. In the first chapter, we read about the structure of Buddhist education and the range of its subjects, and we're treated to a rousing litany of the merits of such instruction. In the second chapter, Butn introduces us to the buddhas of our world and eon, three of whom have already lived, taught, and passed into transcendence, before examining in detail the fourth, our own Buddha Shakyamuni. Butn tells the story of Shakyamuni in his past lives, then presents the path the Buddha followed (the same that all historical buddhas, including future ones, must follow). Only at the conclusion of the discussion of the resultenlightenmentdo we return to the specific case of the Buddha and his twelve deeds. This marks the start of the history of the Buddha as most of us imagine it.

After the Buddha's story, Butn recounts three compilations of Buddhist scriptures, and then quotes from sacred texts that foretell the lives and contributions of great Indian Buddhist masters, which he then relates. The chapter concludes with the tale of the Buddhist doctrine's eventual demise and disappearance, a concept and a tale squarely within the Mahayana. The final chapter, the shortest of the three, gives an account of the inception and spread of Buddhism in Tibet, focused mainly on the country's kings and early adopters of the foreign faith. The watershed debate at Samy Monastery between representatives of Chinese and Indian styles of Buddhist practice is given the most attention in this chapter. An afterword by Ngawang Zangpo, one of the translators, discusses and contextualizes Butn's exemplary life, his turbulent times, and his prolific works.

6. A Lifetime of Wisdom: Embracing the Way God Heals You

Description

Its not what I lost. Its what Ive found. I was only seventeen, just a girl, when God asked me for everything I had my health, my hopes, my independence, my dreams, my freedom, and my mobility. He took it all. I was so angry with Him that I tried to push Him away. God relentlessly held me more closely. Looking back, forty years later, I understand that God has changed and healed memy heart and my mindin the most unexpected ways, giving me rubies of His wisdom about an unbending faith and an experience of His mercy I can now tell you about. Was it a fair exchange, my freedom and no wheelchair for the rubies of wisdom Ive been given? Absolutely. In this I have learned at the feet of the Lord Jesus, embracing the way that God heals us, even when we rage at Him in anger, fear, and despair. This book is not about what I lost in that diving accident so long ago. Its about the wisdom Hes given me to live life victoriously in the face of disappointments and challenges that we all face.
